Membership categories

Decisions as to the interpretation of the qualifications for membership shall be at the sole discretion of the Council.

  1. Ordinary Members

Any medical practitioner who has one or more of the qualifications listed below shall be eligible to be elected an Ordinary member.

  • A Doctor of Medicine (Dermatology) of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine of the University of Colombo; or
  • A Fellow or a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of United Kingdom, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, practicing dermatology in a manner acceptable to the Council.
  • A person holding a degree equivalent to one of the above, as decided by the Council.
  1. Associate Members

A medical Practitioner who is a graduate of a Medical School or University recognized by the Sri Lanka Medical Council and who is registered or qualified to be registered as a medical person under section 29 of the Medical Ordinance shall be eligible for election as an Associate Member of the College. Associate Members shall not be eligible for election as the President or President Elect of the College.

  1. Honorary Member

Any person who has made a significant contribution to dermatology or the allied sciences may, on the recommendation of the council shall be eligible to be elected an Honorary Member of the College.

  1. Life Member

Any person eligible to be an Ordinary Member or any Ordinary Member may on the payment of a fee to be decided from time to time by the Council, be eligible to elect a Life Member.

  1. Honorary Life Member

Any person who has made a significant contribution to dermatology or the allied sciences may, on the recommendation of the council, be elected an Honorary Life Member of the College.

  1. Fellows

Any Life Member or any Honorary Life Member who is in good standing and who satisfies the Council of special proficiency and distinction in the field of dermatology, or who has made a significant contribution to the College activities, may by resolution be admitted by the council as a Fellow of the College.

  1. Honorary Fellows

Any person who is not eligible to be a member of the College but who has made an outstanding contribution to dermatology, may by resolution of the Council, be elected an Honorary Fellow of the College.

  1. Visiting Members

The Council may elect as a Visiting Member any member of the medical or allied professions who is a temporary resident in Sri Lanka.

  1. Student Members

Any person reading for a medical degree in a medical school recognized by the Sri Lanka Medical Council will be eligible to be elected a Student Member of the College.

  • Decisions as to the interpretation of the qualifications for membership shall be at the sole discretion of the Council.

Membership Fees

Any person upon being enrolled as a member in any category shall pay an annual subscription fee and such other fees or levies as may be fixed by the council from time to time.

The annual subscription shall fall due from 1st January in the calendar year. Any person may,  if he/she is admitted to membership In the course of the year, on the decision of the council, be called upon to pay a proportionate quantum of the annual subscription fee till 1 January of the following year.

  • Ordinary/ Associate membership fees – 1000/= per year
  • Life membership fees - 10,000/=

Termination of membership

  1. By failure of a member to pay subscription or other fees due to the college within such period as maybe described in the relevant notice sent by the council to the member. Any member who is in arrears of the membership fee for the current year for a period of three months shall cease to be a member one month after he has been informed by registered post of the arrears and has still failed to pay his dues.
  2. On the resignation of a member in writing provided the resignation is accepted by the council.
  3. Upon resolution that a member be removed from the membership being passed by a majority of not less than 3/4 of the members of the college present and voting at a meeting at which the relevant resolution is taken up, provided the member concerned member has been previously afforded a fair opportunity to vindicate himself at an impartial inquiry and been found guilty.
  • Termination of membership of the college shall automatically entail termination of membership of the council and all other membership rights.
  • The council may suspend a member if it is of the view that the continuance of membership by such a person would be prejudicial to the interest of the College.

Members are entitled to,

  1. Concession rate of registration fees for the conferences and academic sessions organized by the College.
  2. Voting rights ; at general meetings and annual general meeting.
  3. Apply for the Scholarships, Awards and Medals awarded by the College.
  4. Nominations to Awards and Scholarships provided by National and International Organizations mediated through the College.
  5. Free copy of the journal
